Good News from Sara (Spoiler: I'm Hiring!)
If you have been following this blog for a while, you probably know that I’m constantly trying to find balance in my life. I am really passionate about what I do (both with this blog and with Awake Milwaukee), and it’s easy for me to get so wrapped up in my ministry that I forget to take care of myself and my family. Add to that the physical limitations and daily pain of a chronic illness, and I need to be even more intentional about making thoughtful choices about my time and energy.
I’ve pushed myself pretty hard over the last year, and it’s taking a toll on me, both physically and emotionally. Fortunately, Awake’s Board of Directors has been very supportive of my needs, and we have a good plan in place to make my role as executive director more sustainable for me.
Here’s the good news: Beginning in July, I will be slightly reducing my hours with Awake, from full time down to 32 hours/week. This will give me a bit more space to take care of myself and rest when I need to.
And the even-better news: Awake will be adding a new part-time staff person to support our growing mission. I’m really excited about this!
If you're motivated, organized, compassionate, and flexible, with a passion for addressing the issue of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, I hope you will consider applying. And if this is not for you, could you pass along the announcement to others who might be interested? I would love your help finding the right person for this role!
I’m also still discerning how I’m going to move forward with this blog, particularly the monthly Reading Roundup, which is very time-consuming to put together. I appreciate the feedback everyone offered when I asked about this on the May post - both those who encouraged me to take care of myself and those who said how much they value this offering. For June, I think I’m going to experiment with an abbreviated format to see if it takes less time but still provides some value to my readers. I’ll decide more after that.
Thank you to everyone who reads this blog, shares reflections for our Survivors’ Voices Panel, and supports the work of Awake. I’m grateful for the wonderful little communities we are forming!
Peace,
Sara
PS: I’ll be back with Part Two of Survivors' Voices: What I've Learned in Therapy next week!
